PRICE lecture on artificial intelligence on the 6th of August

Gil S. Epstein  (Bar-Ilan University) will give a lecture at the 6th of August from 12-13.30:

Gil S. Epstein

When the Artificial Brain Questions the Human Brain: What Are You Here For?

This talk explores the evolution of Artificial Intelligence — from its historical roots to its latest breakthroughs — and challenges us to reconsider what remains uniquely human in an age of intelligent machines. We will examine how Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI are reshaping labor markets, education, and decision-making. Drawing on cutting-edge global trends and recent empirical research from Israel, we will identify which jobs are most exposed to automation, what skills are becoming more valuable, and how public policy can respond. The final part of the talk will touch on the role of AI in aging societies: will machines replace human care, or will they amplify the value of empathy, wisdom, and intergenerational learning?

Prof. Gil S. Epstein is a full professor of economics at Bar-Ilan University, holding the Wolfson Chair in Public Policy. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and currently acts as Chief Researcher and Head of Labor Policy at the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel. His research spans labor economics, public policy, artificial intelligence, and political economy. He has co-authored Israel’s most influential reports on AI and the labor market — cited by the Knesset, OECD, and other global institutions — and serves on national advisory panels including the Israeli Government’s Expert Forum for AI Policy and the MOSAIC Institute.
